RENEWING A PASSPORT

You can apply for passport renewal by mail if:

• You submit your most recent U.S. Passport
• You were at least 16 years old when your passport was issued
• Your passport was issued within the past 15 years
• You have the same name on your most recent passport or you have had your name changed by marriage or court order and can submit proper documentation to reflect your name change

If you do not meet these conditions, you will need to apply for a new passport.

To apply for passport renewal, you will need to mail a completed form DS-82 Passport Renewal Application to:

With your renewal application, you must enclose the following:

The passport photographs must have been taken within the past 6 months and must be 2x2 inches. The images should measure between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head. The pictures must be clear and frontal view with a white or off-white background, and you should wear normal street attire when they are taken.  Dark glasses, hats and other such items should not be worn; however, items you normally wear, such as a wig or prescription glasses, are acceptable. 

Normal processing time for a passport renewal can take up to eight weeks if all documentation is in order.   If you need your passport earlier you can request expedited service for an additional fee of $60, which is payable by a check or money order addressed to the U.S. Department of State.  If you request expedited service, be sure to mark "expedited" clearly on the envelope.

For an additional $12 fee, including photographs, your renewal application can be assembled and mailed at any Clerk of Courts Title Office.
